Integrating energy, water, construction material use and land use on such a community scale requires multiple design disciplines, a wide range sciences and an ability to work at multiple levels of detail concurrently. The houses use 90% furnaces and 12 SEER air conditioning units with ductwork located inside the conditioned space, controlled mechanical ventilation and unvented crawl spaces.
