  • 1:05 to 1:15, Relationship to the US DOE Building America research goals - Ren Anderson

  • 1:15 to 1:45, (30 min) Ren Anderson, "Can ventilation be used to solve IAQ problems caused by dangerous indoor contaminants?"

  • 1:45 to 1:55, (10 min) Questions and discussion

  • 1:55 to 2:35, (40 min) James Reardon, "Research and case studies providing a basis for ventilation air distribution in the Canadian building code"

  • 2:35 to 2:45, (10 min) Questions and discussion

  • Break/refreshments, 2:45 to 3:00, (15 min)

  • 3:00 to 3:40, (40 min) Mark LaLiberte, "Grand tour of homebuilder experience in residential ventilation, including ventilation air distribution and the Minnesota building code"

  • 3:40 to 3:50, (10 min) Questions and discussion

  • 3:50 to 4:10, (20 min) Armin Rudd, "Ventilation effectiveness testing in two new California homes"

  • 4:10 to 4:30, (20 min) Subrato Chandra, "Ventilation Data from Florida Homes and Lab Facility"

  • 4:30 to 4:40, (10 min) Questions and discussion for both speakers

  • Break, 4:40 to 4:55 (15 min)

  • Discussion, 4:55 to 5:45 (50 min), Joseph Lstiburek, discussion leader

    • What is the right role for dilution ventilation? Does health data exist as a basis for setting dilution ventilation rates? If so, what does it tell us?

    • Should all houses be treated the same? Do we care about ventilation effectiveness? If contaminant sources are managed, and ventilation air distribution is assured, shouldn't that count for something?

    • What about a performance approach that allows modification of a base ventilation rate based on distribution, source of contaminants, air cleaning, envelope tightness, and climate?

  • Wrap up, action items, and follow-up plan, 5:45 to 6:00, Lstiburek/Anderson/ Rudd
